At Casa das Histórias, in Cascais, the exhibition entitled "Paula Rego / Josefa de Óbidos - Religious art in the feminine" shows, until May 23, 115 works by Paula Rego, some of them unpublished, and 21 paintings by Jose de Óbidos. The House of Stories Paula Rego proposes an unusual visit to the work of two visionary and innovative authors, who went beyond pre-established concepts and established their artistic irreverence through the exploration of timeless themes.

On a route built between Portugal and the United Kingdom, Paula Rego asserts himself as one of the most important names in international contemporary art. Annunciation, Nativity and Adoration are three of the most representative and represented themes of Christian iconography.In 2002, also Paula Rego would address these themes in a series of eight canvases commissioned by the then President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio for the chapel of the Palace of Belém. Nadir Afonso (1920-2013) is one of the most outstanding figures of 20th century Portuguese painting. His life was guided by a prolific artistic production, to which he associated a theoretical aspect in search of the «absolute» in art. His work went through several stages until he reached abstractionism marked by the work of geometric shapes, in which he saw the only source of harmony, by the clarity of his mathematical laws, a principle to which his incursion into architecture is not alien.
